Meet Hal
Hal, the founder and owner of Hal Otey Financial, has been providing wealth management and retirement planning services to the Greater Memphis area since 1987. As a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional, Hal focuses on working with retirees and those preparing to retire, by helping them coordinate all the various pieces of their financial lives (pensions, Soc. Security, 401k’s, IRA’s, personal investments, stock options, taxes, etc., etc., etc….) into an organized plan to help them see how all of these financial “pieces” work together for the benefit of them and their family. The goal of our work is to ultimately give them a greater sense of confidence and clarity as they enter retirement – the next chapter of their lives – so they have the freedom to pursue those areas that ultimately give their life meaning and purpose. Hal also works with younger clients who are serious about accumulating sufficient investment resources to be able to prepare for not just retirement, but for their families’ educational funding needs, and to ultimately find their financial freedom as well.
Hal is constantly looking for ways to better serve his clients and because of that mindset, he moved from LPL Financial in 2017 to partner with Carson Partners.
In addition to being a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ Professional, Hal’s professional designations also include Chartered Financial Analyst (ChFC). He is currently a member of the Greater Memphis Chapter of the Financial Planning Association, and he has served as a Board Member of the Society of Financial Service Professionals.
Hal earned his Master’s degree from the University of Memphis in 1983. He is a classically trained operatic singer and was a founding member of the Memphis Vocal Arts Ensemble for nineteen seasons. Hal continues to pursue his passion for music and vocal performance at his church, concerts, and other venues in the the Memphis area throughout the year. Hal also enjoys tennis, swimming, skiing, golf, the performing arts, biblical studies, watching his son ride motorcycles and the University of Memphis Tigers Basketball.
Hal and his wife Lorie have been married since 1982 and are the proud parents of their son Graham. They have been active members of their former church, New Life Fellowship, for 41 years, and now find their church home at One City Church, where Hal serves on the Stewardship committee. He and Lorie also serve on the Guest Services team and lead a Dinner Group in their home twice a month.
